The Lake Tahoe area is divided in two by the vertical California and Nevada State Line. Because of this division of the lake by two states, it is mandated by the U.S. Coast Guard. In the north the division and stateline area is between Crystal Bay, NV and Brockway, CA. Because it is legal to gamble in the state of Nevada, but, not California, you find the major casinos located right on statelines of the northshore and also on the southshore. The stateline in southshore is between South Lake Tahoe, CA and Stateline, NV.
