Lake Tahoe straddles the border of Northern California and Nevada. It is a high elevation mountain lake with many unique attributes. The surrounding areas are home to thriving mountain communities and exceptional wilderness.
The Lake Tahoe area is divided in two by the vertical California and Nevada State Line. Because of this division of the lake by two states, it is mandated by the U.S. Coast Guard. The two primary areas are North Lake Tahoe and South Lake Tahoe, however these two areas are broken down further by state. In the north the division and stateline area is between Crystal Bay, NV and Brockway, CA. Because it is legal to gamble in the state of Nevada, but, not California, you find the major casinos located right on statelines of the northshore and also on the southshore. The stateline in southshore is between South Lake Tahoe, CA and Stateline, NV.
There are 5 counties in the Tahoe basin; Placer, El Dorado, Douglas, Washoe, and …
There are 2 smaller airports located in the vicinity of Lake Tahoe as well as sea plane landing areas on the Lake. Reno International Airport can be easily accessed from both North and South Lake Tahoe and offers a number of major air carriers.
